Rhino Bucket – Who’s Got Mine

Two years after the well-received The Hardest Town album in 2009, and now once again without Dio drummer Simon Wright (replaced by Anthony Biuso), Rhino Bucket have now reached the third new album of their second era, which started in 2006. With The Hardest Town they couldn’t get away from the blatant AC/DC sound, but did at least deliver some very good songs. With Who’s Got Mine they taken a small step away from quite such a dependence on that sound (although the guitar tones still drip with it), mixing this time with that of The Stooges. With Georg Dolivo’s voice and that AC/DC guitar tone, especially evident on the solos, they do kind of sound like Bon Scott singing Stooges songs, and the result is a more interesting sound, although still not impressively original, but slightly more repetitive songs. They’ve still got an ear for a groove (title track), the blues and foot-stomping rockers (Her Way, Chase The Case, Lifeline), and they’ve very clearly got more to offer than the current crop of bands content with simply ripping off AC/DC songs and having the gall to put their own name on them. There’re no straight-ahead blues numbers this time, but because of that the pace doesn’t let up for the whole album. Much more so than last time out Who’s Got Mine makes a real effort to sound like a Rhino Bucket record above anything else, with just as many good songs. The Hardest Town was a good album, but this is better.
