Gary Moore dies

Irish guitarist Gary Moore, 58, has died. Reports so far state that he died in his sleep in the early hours of the morning on Sunday February 6 while on holiday in Spain.

Moore, who has had several career peaks including as a member of Thin Lizzy, Skid Row and with both sides of a successful solo career playing blues and rock, was not known to be in ill health or have any other related problems, so the precise cause of death is currently unknown.

Moore’s final tour took place in Europe in the Summer of 2010 when he resurrected his popular rock material from the 1980s. He intended to return to the blues in 2011.

Update 8/2/2011: A postmortem carried out in Spain has revealed Moore died of natural causes – a suspected heart attack. Further tissue tests will take place before Moore’s body is transported back to Ireland.
