Exeloume – Fairytale of Perversion

site | label | buy

In this day and age, it’s very easy to make very mediocre, by-the-numbers thrash. And unfortunately for Exeloume, they fell into the trap. For taking obvious influences from Destruction and Possessed, Exeloume doesn’t do much with them. There are a few good moments on the album, like the solo’s on Blind Billions and the riffing on Share My Pain (Stalingrad) but the rest of the album just seems to be set in fairly uncomfortable mid-tempo thrash. Exeloume honestly sounds more like newer thrash bands like Havok or Warbringer, except they fail to ever unleash the beast. It seems like they’re always holding back, afraid to really let the thrash out. By the time you reach Hellhole, you’ll feel like you’ve already heard this track on this same album. Not even a guest solo from Andy LaRoque or guests vocals from Dan Swanö can save Fairytale of Perversion from mediocrity. Even big fans of the “nu-thrash” movement will recognise there just really isn’t anything to separate Exeloume from either the bands it chooses to emulate or the hordes of better bands along with them. Skip.
