Voodoo Six – Fluke?

Voodoo Six’s second album has taken some time after their first album, Feed My Soul was re-mixed and re-released in 2008 and heavy touring was undertaken to support its release. With Fluke?, keeping their superb sense of groove and terrific ear for a riff, the only change musically, apart from being a little less direct than on First Hit For Free (the re-release title) has been to make the riffs meatier and heavier. The more significant change is new vocalist Luke Purdie, whose rougher voice suits the southern-tinged riffs of Matt Pearce and Chris Jones far better than Henry Rundell’s did, great singer though he was. Every track on Fluke? combines old fashioned rock ‘n’ roll ethics with tough riffs, immeasureable groove, tasteful solos and Purdie’s rugged vocals. Like a British Black Stone Cherry, in a sense. The record is flawless, accomplishing the often difficult task of producing melodic, catchy songs without sacrificing heaviness or muscle. Easily V6′s best work so far, and they are setting themselves a hell of a target to beat this with album number three.
