Triptykon – Shatter

Very quickly after the release of their debut album Triptykon, the new band formed by former Celtic Frost front-man Thomas Gabriel Fischer, and very much in the vein of Celtic Frost’s final album Monotheist, have delivered three more brand new songs. The first is very different to the material on Eparistera Daimones. Fischer speaks all of his vocals in a very low voice, while the choruses are sung by female bassist Vanja Slajh vocals, giving the song a completely different, more ethereal, feel to the tracks released so far. The second, I Am The Twilight, is much more in keeping with the album. A very similar riff to the ones found there, and a far more typical Fischer vocal. The third, Crucifixus, is a throw-away, droning instrumental; the only possible purpose of which is in a shortened form as a concert intro tape. The three new songs are supplemented by two live tracks recorded on the tour for the debut album, both Celtic Frost covers. Both are good versions, and of course sound just like Frost did when they finished, but strangely the quality of the recording is so crisp it barely sounds like a live recording. Nevertheless they make up for the dreadful Crucifixus and round out the EP nicely. This release will placate fans’ need for more material for a short time, but with one of the three new songs being so bad, that won’t last long.
