The Rocket Dolls – Frame

site

Formed as recently as early 2008 in Brighton, England, The Rocket Dolls’ sound is firmly rooted in the alternative, with elements of Godsmack, Disturbed and Seether permeating their songs. Broken‘s main riff is essentially one of Nickelback‘s, but the song is more aggressive than the Canadians would normally produce, and Stone Temple Pilots‘ influence can be felt all over Bleeding The Shame. The best riff is reserved for fleeting appearances in title track Frame as it grooves between verses, but the ones on Bleeding The Shame and Delirium are almost as good. These first four tracks, with more being demo’d this year, show a lot of promise and a good ear for groove and variety, which are becoming increasingly essential for truly great albums, as well as sparing use of good lead guitar (which wouldn’t suffer from an increased presence). They’ve got all of the basic musical elements to be a successful band, provided they can avoid the radio-rock trap, and clearly also have the personnel to continue producing high calibre songs as well. A debut album, which could arrive as soon as 2011, will be worth the wait on this evidence.
