Hellish Crossfire – Bloodrust Scythe

Hellish Crossfire has released a blistering, extremely well-done attack with Bloodrust Scythe, but it’s nothing we haven’t heard before. Hellish Crossfire does a good job of making really good thrash in the same vein as Destroyer 666 or labelmates Nifelheim, but there’s also a good chunk of other genre’s in their sound. Being from Germany, there’s a good bit of black metal as well, putting them in the ranks with German brothers Desaster. In the second track Black Infection, there’s a part that sounds right out of an Iron Maiden album. Orgasmic Rush is where the band sounds the most like the current thrash resurgence. I almost thought I’d accidentally started listening to a Toxic Holocaust album for a second. But Bloodrust Scythe is a fantastic album. It’s a great jump-off point for anyone interested in underground thrash, especially from the ’00s. It’s full of enough speed and aggression for the most die-hard fans, and the melodic bits and the solos will win over everyone else. Don’t expect anything mind-shattering and revolutionary, but expect a sore neck from headbanging.
