Gotthard’s Steve Lee killed

Gotthard singer Steve Lee, 47, has been killed in a freak road accident in Nevada, USA while on a motorcycling holiday with friends from Switzerland.

With a rare break in his schedule Lee was finally able to go on his dream trip to America to spend two weeks riding across the country on a Harley Davidson motorcycle. Lee and 20 of his friends hired 12 bikes and began their trip on Sunday October 3. On Tuesday October 5, on Interstate 15 between Misquite and Las Vegas, about 50 miles from Vegas, it started raining and the group stopped by the roadside to put on their rain gear. While they were doing this, the trailer of a passing truck began to skid on the road. The driver attempted to avoid the group of bikes, but the trailer hit five of them; one of these hit Lee.

None of the other bikers were hurt, but rescure services pronounced Lee dead at 16:13 local time after 20 minutes of attempted resuscitation.

A press release on the band’s official website states:

“With Steve Lee, we not only lose one of the world’s best rock voices but also a good friend who due to his sensitivity and down-to-earth personality always met the people around him with respect.

It will take some time till we fully understand what has happened.”
