Crystal Viper is a female fronted traditional metal outfit from Poland. Lead Vocalist, Leather Wych, has a lot of energy and a powerful voice, with an overall similar style to Doro Pesch; as a matter of fact, the band as a whole is reminiscent of Warlock. Defenders of the Magic Circle: Live in Germany contains six live tracks, Breaking The Curse, Metal Nation, Legions of Truth, The Island of The Silver Skull, Shadows On The Horizon, and The Last Axeman plus a few extras to round out the disc. Also included is The Wolf And The Witch (available for the first time on CD) Stronghold: Under Seige (previously only available on a limited edition CD single) and Obession (It Burns for You) (previously unreleased Virgin Steele cover) The only downside to this release is that it is rather short for a live album, but to be fair Crystal Viper do only have two full length releases, and this recording, albeit brief, does include their entire 2009 performance from Manowar’s Magic Circle Festival. All that being said, this is a great live performance, packaged with some rare material. Defenders of the Magic Circle: Live in Germany captures all the raw energy Crystal Viper has to offer, and is sure to captivate fans until the release of the bands’ third studio album, which is being recorded this summer.
