U.D.O. – Infected

Ahead of the August release of new album Dominator the Accept legend Udo Dirkschneider releases another EP, as he has done for the last three or four albums, featuring a track from the album and a handful of non-album bonus tracks. The Title track is typically catchy for an U.D.O. single, and therefore in the usual tradition not his best work. However, it does hold one of the more interesting riffs to grace one of their tracks for some time, with a very slight industrial edge to it. B-sides Bodyworld and Systematic Madness have a much harder metal attack and are much better tracks, particularly Systematic Madness, which grooves like some of the stand-outs on previous album Mastercutor did. It’s fortunate that the three new tracks, which are the real attraction of the disc anyway, are so strong, because the final two exclusive tracks here are throw-aways. The first is a remix of the already weak Platchet Soldat and the second is a live version of the equally weak Poezd Po Rossii. Whenever U.D.O. make a track in a language other than English they always somehow manage to make them weak and altogether far too jolly. Only 222 copies of this EP will be made available Worldwide, so fans will have to move reasonably quickly to secure a copy.
