Trippy Wicked & The Cosmic Children of The Knight – Movin On

site | buy
This slightly excessively-named English trio are a self-termed underground DIY outfit based in and around London, turning out riffs galore that have attracted several different genre labels, and in truth takes influences from all of them and more besides. There’s a whole list of bands you could say may have influenced Trippy Wicked, from the obvious ones like Black Sabbath and Kyuss, to the heaviness of Crowbar and the blues-ish groove of Clutch (check out Southern) but what they’ve ultimately ended up with is a sound that’s entirely their own. Everything here is heavy, down-tempo and sombre, even when the subject matter isn’t, and plays like Reverend Bizarre jamming on ’60s psychedelia. The three-piece has changed several times since 2006, with front-man and guitarist Pete Holland (a classic doom jam-band voice) and drummer Chris West remaining constant. Recent recruit Dicky King (ex-Olde Crone) completed the current line-up in 2008 and this set of ten tracks was recorded in June 2009, after three years of Holland and West refining their craft. The songwriting, jam feel and devastating riffs on Movin On are of a level seasoned pros are producing, and the whole package is entirely self financed, produced and promoted. The only complaint on the music side is the lack of lead guitar, but this is an evolving band and the set of tunes here is as solid a foundation as any band could hope for.
