Trinakrius – Inquisantism

After one demo Italian doom metal band Trinakrius recorded and released their debut double EP, Inquisantism, in 2004, featuring five songs in English plus a cover of Judas Priest‘s Love Bites on the first disc, and Italian-language versions of the five originals on the second. The two-EP configuration worked much better than this re-issued one-disc version, especially when only three of the five originals have any actual lyrics. The track is a spoken-word intro over choral voices, and mostly-instrumental follow-up Intrinakrius is identical on both versions, not even getting a title translation. The remaining three inquisition-themed tracks, the death metal influenced The Heretic/L’Eretico (drummer Claudio Florio providing the growled vocals) between the epic doom of The King’s Devils/I Diavoli Del Re and The Executioner/Il Boia, are all excellent, and obviously do sound slightly different with the lyrics in a different language, but that effect wears off quickly. For the international market including the English versions on an album with some new songs (which they did on 2005′s Santa Inquisitio, without the competently handled Priest cover) is a better idea, perhaps including the Italian versions on a different CD as bonus tracks, but on the same CD they are redundant.
