The New Black – The New Black

Although comparisons with Black Label Society and Pantera are readily being thrown around when referring to the new outfit formed by guitarists Christof Leim (Sinner) and Fabian Schwarz (Runamok/Stormwitch), using names like Brand New Sin, Nickelback and Black Stone Cherry would be closer to the mark. These influences vary, and one or two songs are a little too radio-friendly, but things like the ZZ Top blues of Simplify, the swampy acoustic guitar intro to Ballad of Broken Angels, and generally vocalist Fludid’s performance throughout, make this a complete rock record, borrowing from several avenues, including blues, metal, southern rock and modern alternative, to create something that isn’t entirely new, but is certainly genuine.
