Savage Messiah – Insurrection Rising

site | label | buy
Like Sinocence, who released their debut album in June, English thrash outfit Savage Messiah play what are essentially traditional/power metal songs and vocal melodies over sharp thrash riffs; like a thrash version of Wolf. With a guitar tone similar to Kreator, equally blistering chops, some of Overkill‘s groove, a few gallopping Iced Earth riffs and lyrics/song titles that show some intelligence in a genre populated by young bands singing about zombies, killing and moshing, make Insurrection Rising a strong new contender for thrash album of the year. Some songs (album highlights In Absence of Liberty and Silent Empire) are punctuated by softer sections of emotive lead guitar and acoustic melodies, while others (Corruption X, The Nihilist Machine) are pure brutal riffing from start to finish. There are things here for fans of Megadeth (Vigil of The Navigator), Kreator, Evile and just about any other technical thrash band; Savage Messiah are the complete package.
