Rebellion – The Clans Are Marching

The band formed by former Grave Digger guitarist Uwe Lulis and bassist Tomi Göttlich (which do sound quite a lot like their previous employers) complete their ‘History of The Vikings’ trilogy of albums in late July with Arise: From Ginnungagap To Ragnarök, but before that they release this EP containing two tracks set to appear on the album and two non-album bonus tracks, plus a live video from last year’s Summer Breeze Open-Air Festival. The title song, and the first of the non-album tracks, is a classic anthem in the normal Rebellion style of battle metal lyrics set to traditional metal riffs, much like Grave Digger’s medieval trilogy of albums, particular with the mention of Scotland and “tunes of war” in the lyrics. Arise, which will appear on the album, is a little less obvious. A little more akin to Kiuas than Grave Digger this time, it’s a more interesting track than the opener, but less anthemic. Ragnarök, the second non-album track, is musically closer to Blind Guardian or Primal Fear and although it features perhaps a little too much growling, it’s another strong anthem. Finally My Blood In The Snow, from the album, has Iron Maiden‘s name stamped all over its soft intro, the galloping rhythms of the main body of the song and even the guitar solo. The two non-album tracks are the more interesting of the four presented here, so fans should definitely strongly consider getting this in addition to the new album.
