Rage – Gib Dich Nie Auf

site | label | buy

On the one hand this EP, part of Rage’s 25th Anniversary celebrations, represents something most bands should at some point in their career issue for fans: a collection of the tracks they’ve only been able to get on over-priced import versions of albums or rare singles etc. On the other, it’s something no one should release: a blatant money making attempt. There’s nothing that annoys the CD-buying public more than a special/limited edition of an album which has already been out for some time and most of them have bought, and while Gib Dich Nie Auf appears on the surface to be a stand-alone disc, it is in fact only available as a bonus disc with a new edition of the Carved In Stone album. It contains one brand new song, Home, plus the German language versions of Full Moon and Never Give Up, a pointless orchestral version of Lord of The Flies, Terrified from the Nuclear Blast All-Stars album Into The Light and the English version of Never Give Up for good measure, but all the Rage fans (no doubt most of them) who have already paid out for a copy of Carved In Stone are going to feel betrayed, and for very good reason.
