Legion of The Damned – Cult of The Dead

The hard working German death/thrash outfit only released their last album, Feel The Blade, in January of this year. It’s now December. The one before was last year. And they’ve been touring in between. And on top of constantly recording and releasing new albums and touring each one, they take the time to record bonus DVDs for each release. The bonus DVD for Cult of The Dead features the band playing the whole album in their rehearsal room. Additionally, a special deluxe edition of the album will include another CD of their set from the 2006 Rock Hard Festival. But the downside of such prolificacy is monotony, and it has to be said variation is not Cult of The Dead‘s strong suit. Indeed several tracks, even to a thrash fan, start to sound wearingly similar. While there’s some excellent riffing on the likes of Solar Overlord, every track does take a very familiar course and after three or four the album loses it’s full-throttle edge and adopts one of by-the-numbers.
