Iron Fire – To The Grave

site | label | buy
More of the same for fans of Firewind and Gamma Ray, in essence. Iron Fire’s sound borders on the disappointingly generic for power metal, but their songs carry enough hooks and impressive guitar playing to ensure their efforts aren’t completely wasted. This is their fifth studio release, and contains everything fans will have come to expect, without really pushing any envelopes. It’s solid as power metal goes, but really doesn’t offer anything fresh. Particularly with songs like Hail To Odin, which just about every power metal band has written at some point in their career. If approached with little expectation of something new and interesting, To The Grave should satisfy most power fans, particularly those partial to songs about battles, Gods and demons. Look out for the excellent, slower-paced Doom Riders towards the end.
