Huron – Cheyne Stoking

Finally, England has an answer to the legacy left by Pantera. If you miss the US metal legends, buy Cheyne Stoking and you’ll feel like they never went away. That’s not to say Huron are a carbon copy, but stylistically you’ll find a lot to like. The magnificent mostly-acoustic track Your View From The Sun could come from the Days of The New stable with some heavy parts thrown in for good measure, but all of the out-and-out heavy tracks could easily have come from the pens of Abbott, Abbott, Anselmo and Brown; none more so than Lust of War, Pain Is Me, Snakes Down Her Back and Break Your Neck. Although there’s a danger Huron will be dismissed by some as being too similar to Pantera, these are still their riffs and their songs, not just direct copies, and tracks like Your View From The Sun and Dirt only go to show they arguably have more depth than Pantera did. Amongst a huge number of young bands peddling the same tired hardcore formula, Huron are one of the most promising new bands around at the moment.
