Edguy – F**king With F***: Live

Recorded in Sao Paulo, Brazil on the World for the Rocket Ride album, this double CD live album (there’s a DVD too) is Edguy’s first since the Burning Down The Opera album in 2003, and their first to make it to DVD. The recording is a little out of balance, with Tobias Sammet’s vocals being very up-front in the mix, sometimes relegating the rest of the band to the background, but other than that the band are clear (particularly Felix Bohnke’s drums) and the crowd aren’t too intrusive (which lets down some of the parts where Sammet lets them sing the words – see Sacrifice on disc one). The other problem with Sammet’s vocals being so prominent is any flaws or flat notes are glaringly obvious, and this is not his best performance. The setlist could also be perhaps considered an issue. Fans who own Burning Down The Opera will find less of interest here than those who don’t as almost all of the older songs included are the same. Tears of The Mandrake, Babylon, Land of The Miracle, Vain Glory Opera, Avantasia and Out of Control all appear on both albums, meaning the only differences here are the four songs from the current album, the two singles from Hellfire Club (Lavatory Love Machine and King of Fools) and Mysteria, a live version of which is already available on the Superheroes DVD single. Nevertheless, Edguy fans, who tend to get quite excited at hearing the most popular songs every show anyway, should be happy with this release.
