Deathstars – Night Electric Night

Deathstars’ popularity rose quickly following the 2005 release of Termination Bliss and its accompanying tours and festival appearances, but while more of the same was probably the expectation, there’s very little here as anthemic as most of Termination Bliss. Opener Chertograd is much more of an almagamation of influences than most of their material has been so far, particularly Rammstein. Driving Rob Zombie riffs like the title track and increased use of Lordi-style keyboards (Chertograd, Death Dies Hard) are signs of new things the band are trying, but the overriding impression is one of far more gothic overtones this time (Via The End, The Fuel Ignites) and riffs borrowed from Termination Bliss (Opium, Arclight), meaning a lot of the tail end of the album sounds much the same.
