Cinderella – Live At The Mohegan Sun

This new single-disc live offering from a band who seem to have released a huge number of live albums already comes from the 2005 North American package tour with Quiet Riot, Ratt and Firehouse and is actually only the third recording of the band to be released. The reason it would appear they’ve released more than that when browsing any online CD store is because their set from the Key Club in Los Angeles from 1998 has been released under five or six different titles. This is first live set from the 2000-2006 reunion period, and their first release from their new deal with Italy’s Frontiers Records, but is unfortunately far from perfect. Tommy Kiefer sounds constantly out of breath on some songs, making a real mess of Night Songs in particular, and the sound quality is a reasonable soundboard transfer, but lacks the real clarity of a professional live album. The audience noise would also appear to have been engineered in places in that time-honoured way of many live albums to make it sound constant, instead of responding to the highs and lows of a show like a real audience does, particularly on an otherwise excellent run of acoustic tracks in the middle of the a very familiar set. The most important thing about this release, and the thing that will excite Cinderella fans the most, is that this is a precursor to a brand new Cinderella album to be released on the label next year.
