AssJack – AssJack

Outlaw Country star Hank Williams III, son of Hank Williams Jr. and grandson of legend Hank Williams, has been waiting a long time to release this album. AssJack are his southern metalcore project and until now he’s been prevented from releasing the music commerically by his country label Curb Records and was only able to release a series of limited official bootlegs, all of which are now out of print. A long time coming, but a disappointing mess of an album, the production on AssJack, particularly on the drums, is terrible and goes a long way to make the album sound like a chaotic demo. The overlaid vocals a la Devin Townsend would be fine were it not for the awful production and while some of the riffs and lead breaks under the noise created by the poor production are good, it is all effectively negated. The style Williams has gone for with AssJack was never going to be to everyone’s tastes (more or less his aim with all of his music), but the sound of this ridiculously brief (half an hour) CD makes it unlistenable, regardless of the quality of the songs.
