Save Planet Rock

Three weeks ago, on February 11, GCap Media, who own successful rock radio station Planet Rock, announced that they wish to sell the station, and if a buyer is not found by March 28 then it will be shut down.

The GCap press release can be read here.

Planet Rock attracts 560,000 listeners, which is more than BBC Radio 6, and along with Total Rock is the premier rock music radio station in the UK.

Jukebox:Metal joined the likes of Thunder, Brian May and Fish by formally pledging its support today for the Save Planet Rock campaign, and we urge readers who don’t wish to see one of the last remaining bastions of rock radio disappear, to do the same.

Many of the ways you can support the campaign are free (petitions, MySpace, Facebook, forums etc.), but if you wish to contribute financially to a fund to buy the station, this can be done too. As of today (March 3) listeners have pledged over £19,000 to help buy the station.

Full details of the campaign and links to all of the ways you can support it, can be found at www.saveplanetrock.co.uk.

Even if you don’t live in the UK and don’t listen to Planet Rock because you have your own local rock station, please help us keep one of ours.
