Citriniti – Between The Music And Latitude

Mascot Records
Produced by Danilo Citriniti, Domenico Citriniti & Fabrizio Leo

Aside from an instrumental solo album this year, Italian virtuoso guitarist Fabrizio Leo has also joined the Citriniti brothers Danilo (drums) and Domenico (bass) for their instrumental outting Between The Music And Latitude.

Apparently Citriniti are somewhere between ‘The Music’ and ‘Latitude’, never really reaching either of them. There’s no doubt the Citriniti brothers and Leo can all play, but I remain unconvinced that the three men are actually playing together on this rather uncoordinated CD. It sounds more like they’re all doing their own thing in separate rooms unaware of each other and the “songs” have been pasted together afterwards. When I noticed track three starting I wasn’t aware there’d been a track two.

If you’ve ever wondered what Steve Vai would sound like playing freeform Jazz, take a listen to this and you’ll get a pretty good idea. Otherwise, for truly great instrumental metal, check out Canvas Solaris and leave this well alone. And in case you were wondering, Leo’s solo album isn’t much better.
