Alice Cooper – Live At Montreux 2005

Eagle Vision
Produced by Stéphanie-Aloysia Moretti

Eagle Rock have gone above and beyond this time. In the latest addition to their already exemplary Live At Montreux series Alice Cooper’s 2005 set at the historic festival is the undoubted perfect way to make a live DVD.

Not only does it contain a live CD featuring 19 of the 27 track set, not only is the footage flawless, the sound superb and the editing smooth, but there’s no pointless footage interrupting the main show and (this may just be me) there’s no unnecessary bonus material that people will watch once, max, if ever at all. It’s just the show, in its stunning entirety.

As we’re all used to now, the Alice Cooper show is a true spectacle. One of the last in rock music. And this show is now different. Alice, along with one of his best band line-ups and dancer-daughter Calico, produce all the stunts we know and love. The band at the time featured hot-shot guitarist Ryan Roxie (who has since been replaced by Keri Kelli), rhythm guitarist Damon Johnson (currently fronting the fantastic Slave To The System), bassist Chuck Garric and KISS drummer Eric Singer. The setlist is composed mostly of classic tracks from Alice’s long career, with some new songs from Dirty Diamonds slotted in.

Going through the whole setlist is unnecessary. Much of it we can all imagine. However, as on all of Alice’s tours, there’re some extra surprises. On this particular occasion, Be My Lover, The Awakening and Killer make rare appearances amidst Poison, School’s Out, Under My Wheels, Lost In America and so forth, and new songs Between High School And Old School (from The Eyes of Alice Cooper), Woman of Mass Distraction (from Dirty Diamonds) and Gimme (from Brutal Planet).

An oddly short review this time, but there’s really not much else to be said. If there’s one thing Eagle know how to do, it’s make an Alice Cooper DVD. Amazing.

“ stunning ”
