Rock ‘N’ Roll Blvd Volume 1
Produced by

To celebrate their 5th Anniversary Buzzville Records have compiled this two-disc, 35-track compilation of bands from their own label and from other labels to give away free to attendees of their mini-festival, Buzzfest. So why is this compilation any different or better than any other?
Because no less then seventeen bands have contribute previously unreleased songs, that’s why. It will be sold at mid-price from the Buzzville online store after the festival, so essentially people are getting a seventeen-track album of unreleased songs, plus eighteen other songs they’ve probably never heard anyway. That makes this a thoroughly worthwhile compilation.
Buzzville have a compact (read: short) but brilliant roster of bands. Not all of them are featured here (where’re Cowboys & Aliens, Artimus Pyledriver and the sensational Tim’s Favourite, guys?) but several are, including Generous Maria (with a previously unreleased song), Gonzales, Mezzanine (also with a new song) and instrumental stoners Monkey3. All four are great bands and the tracks here comfortably prove that.
All the other tracks are from other labels. Only one of those is particularly big (SPV) but the band from their roster featured here is one of the more undiscovered talents they have signed (The Quill, featuring Magnus Ekwall on vocals who recently appeared on Ayreon’s The Human Equation). There are simply too many bands on here to go through individually, so let’s just look at the best ones. The general theme of this release is pure rock n roll. Very 70s influenced stuff, closer to modern-day stoner than any other current genre, but remaining original. There’re not copycat bands on here. Pick of the bunch, apart from those mentioned so far, would have to be We’re All Gonna Die (yes, that’s a band name), the immensely groovy HULK, Sir Hedgehog, Starchild, StoneWall Noise Orchestra, Kayser, Electric Earth, Honcho (appearing at Buzzfest), Pilotos, Rite, Throttlerod and Desert Sun. See what I mean?
Seriously, if you’re into any kind of heavy rock at all you need to check this out. I guarantee you’ll hear something you love that you didn’t know existed, and several of the tracks here are exclusive to this release.
